We believe in the Triune God- Father, Jesus Christ his Son, and the Holy Spirit.
We believe in Jesus Christ our (and the) living Lord and Savior. He lived to teach us how to live in God's Kingdom, died to reconcile us to God through the forgiveness and atonement of sin, was bodily resurrected on the third day (defeating death), and now sits at the right hand of God.
We believe the Holy Spirit is the person of the Trinity who is the presence of God living in those who believe in Christ, empowering us for life with God, and transforming us fully into Christ-likeness as God's children.
We believe that Scripture is inspired by God through the Holy Spirit for instruction in salvation and training in righteousness. As God's masterpiece written through history, it is the highest authority second only to God himself for Christian life.
Humanity and The Fall
Humanity was created "very good." Adam and Eve chose to turn away from God and followed their own direction for life, disobeying God's commands, which is sin. All humans continue in this pattern and suffer from sin and its consequences, including death.
The church is God's people. The physical location of the church is the place God's people gather to know Jesus Christ through worship, prayer, and studying Scripture; to love Jesus by experiencing and growing in Christ; and to live a Jesus-lifestyle through loving service and community.
We believe that God is love and he has said, "Love God, love your neighbor, and love your enemies," because God loves and offers grace to all people. We participate in Jesus' ministry of making peace, seeking justice and reconciliation, and doing all of these in non-violent ways.
We believe baptism is an outward sign and public proclamation of an inward commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
The Lord's Supper
We believe the Lord's Supper is the sign of thankful remembrance of the work of Jesus and His saving grace. We believe it is also a time we renew our commitment to follow and serve God through the confession of sin and reception of forgiveness.
Foot-washing, or currently hand-washing here at South Union, is a sign and commitment to serve one another and submit to one another, modeling Jesus' own actions.
We believe that marriage is for one man and one woman for life as God's original design. A life of singleness is also a beautiful reflection of the way Jesus himself lived. We believe the family is the first place of ministry for every believer.
